Updating Desorix

Updates are applied from Administration → Updates, in the browser. Desorix checks for new versions every night, and whenever you click Check now.

There are three ways to apply an update. All three end with the same Finish update step.

WayNeedsWhen to use it
One-clickAn active purchase code (Administration → License)Normally
Upload the zipThe release zip from CodeCanyonNo purchase code, the license server is unreachable, or you prefer it
FTP / File ManagerThe release zipThe zip is larger than your host's upload limit

Every release is signed. Desorix checks the signature and the checksum of every file before changing anything, whichever way the zip arrives, and refuses a zip that was altered.

Before you update

  • Read the changelog shown on the Updates page.
  • Database backup:
    • Databases under 200 MB are backed up automatically before the switch. The backup can be downloaded from the update's history entry.
    • For larger databases, back up first in cPanel (Backup, or phpMyAdmin → Export) and tick I have backed up the database.
  • Updates never touch:
    • .env
    • uploaded media and other files in storage/
    • modules you installed yourself
    • translations or files you added. Files you added inside Desorix's folders are carried over to the new version.
    • Files that came with Desorix and that you edited are replaced. Your edited copy stays in the update's backup.

One-click update

  1. Administration → Updates → Check now.
  2. Click Update to x.y.z.
  3. Keep the page open. It downloads, extracts, checks the signature and every file, backs up the database, then switches to the new files. Each step is short, so your host's time limits don't matter.
  4. The page moves to Finish update. Click it. This applies the database changes, clears caches and brings the site back online.

While the files switch, visitors and your team see a short "maintenance" page, including on the sign-in page. You, the admin running the update, can keep using everything (and sign in again in the same browser) until you click Finish update.

"Waiting for the server to load the new files…"

Some hosts (CloudLinux, LiteSpeed) keep the old PHP files in memory for a moment after an update. The finish page waits and checks again every few seconds.

If it still waits after two minutes, restart PHP: cPanel → Select PHP Version, choose the same version again and save. Then reload the page.

Upload the zip

  1. Download the new version from CodeCanyon and unzip the package. Inside it is desorix-x.y.z.zip: upload that file, not the whole package.
  2. Administration → Updates → Update from a zip → choose the file → Upload and update.
  3. Continue as with one-click (step 3 above).

The upload limit is shown on the page. If the zip is larger:

  1. Upload it with File Manager to desorix/storage/app/updates/.
  2. Reload the Updates page.
  3. Click Use this file.

FTP or File Manager (extracting over the old files)

If you prefer to copy files yourself:

  1. Back up your database and the desorix folder.
  2. Extract the new zip over the old installation. Keep your .env and storage/ folder.
  3. Sign in as an administrator. A banner says the update isn't finished. Click Finish update.

On a VPS the same step is php artisan desorix:finish-update.

Rolling back

The history on the Updates page offers Roll back to x.y.z for the most recent update. Rolling back puts the previous files back. The database is kept as it is: within 1.x, updates only add to the database, so the previous version runs on it unchanged.

Desorix keeps the backups of the last two updates and deletes older ones automatically when an update finishes. Their size is shown on Administration → System.

Modules

  • Modules that ship with Desorix (WooCommerce) are updated with Desorix.
  • Add-on modules you bought separately have their own entry under Update from a zip (and one-click updates when their purchase code is activated).
  • New modules are installed the same way: choose Install a new module, upload its zip, then enable it under Administration → Modules.

If something goes wrong

  • A step fails before the switch (download, signature, disk space): nothing has changed. Fix the cause shown, and start again.
  • The switch fails: Desorix puts the previous files back in the same request and brings the site back online.
  • The site shows "Service unavailable" and you can't sign in (for example in another browser): if you're still signed in somewhere, open https://your-domain/admin/updates/finish there and click Finish update. Otherwise delete storage/framework/down with File Manager, sign in, and click Finish update in the banner.
